Recipe Redux: Wintry Cranberry Sangria

The recipe redux for this month was a fun one – healthier versions of your favorite beverages! Will came up with this wintry version of sangria the other night and I knew I just had to share. We created a fun spin on regular sangria by adding a dash of cranberry bitters – perfect for winter drinks. Mix up one of these to make your happy hour a little healthier. In fact, heading to happy hour every once in a while or having a glass of wine at home with dinner may be healthy. Some studies show that alcohol consumption (except in excess) may be linked to healthy outcomes such as: successful aging and lowered risk of heart disease. Red wine in particular has shown more potential health benefits due to its high content of antioxidants like resveratrol.

 If you prefer your happy hour indulgences a little more on the sweet side, feel free to add a bit of simple syrup or substitute the club soda with a diet gingerale.

Wintry Cranberry Sangria
Serves 2

  1. 4 ounces gin
  2. 4 ounces wine
  3. 1 ounce lemon juice
  4. 1 ounce lime juice
  5. Dash of cranberry bitters
  6. Ice
  7. Club Soda
  1. Combine gin, wine, juice, and cranberry bitters in a pitcher. Stir to combine and pour into two glasses half filled with ice. Top off with club soda.

    You can never go wrong with sangria. I am heading to the beach this week and I think this would make a great beverage to sip while watching the sunset.

    Obsessed with those straws!! And my husband recently thought it would be necessary buy and stock a bar cart for our TINY house. But I guess it’s okay because it means I have all the ingredients for this sangria!! Gorgeous!
